Clean the lint screen every load
And wash it with soap every few months. Dryer-sheet residue coats the mesh and cuts airflow even when it looks clean.
Have the vent duct cleaned yearly
Lint in the duct is the leading cause of dryer fires and the number one reason for long dry times. Longer runs and roof vents need it more often.
Use rigid or semi-rigid metal duct
Plastic and thin foil flex hose crushes, traps lint and is a fire hazard. Metal duct with short runs and few bends dries faster and safer.
Check the outside flap
If the exterior vent flap does not open freely while the dryer runs, the duct is restricted or the flap is stuck.
Wipe the moisture sensor
The two metal bars inside the drum control auto-dry cycles. Rubbing alcohol on a cloth restores accurate sensing.
Do not overload
Overloading blocks airflow and strains the belt, rollers and motor. Clothes should tumble freely.
